Josh Phillips
I'm a documentary, editorial, and portrait photographer whose work is rooted in honest storytelling and human connection.
My approach is simple: people always come before photographs.
I believe the strongest images are built on trust, respect, and genuine human connection. Whether I’m documenting disaster relief, community development, medical missions, or creating editorial portraits, my goal remains the same: to make honest photographs that honor the people in front of the camera while telling authentic stories.
My background as a United States Marine taught me to remain calm under pressure, adapt to difficult conditions, and approach every assignment with professionalism when circumstances are unpredictable. Being a husband, father, and lifelong musician has shaped a different set of strengths—empathy, patience, and an appreciation for the responsibility that comes with telling someone else’s story.
Most of my work is rooted close to home, creating editorial and portrait photography for publications, organizations, businesses, and individuals. At the same time, some of the assignments that mean the most to me take me into communities around the world, documenting humanitarian efforts and the resilience of the human spirit. Whether I’m photographing an executive, collaborating with a nonprofit, or documenting a humanitarian mission, I approach every subject with the same respect, curiosity, and commitment to preserving their dignity.
I create photographs that help organizations build trust, help publications tell meaningful stories, and help individuals be seen with honesty and authenticity. The most meaningful images don’t simply document a moment—they deepen understanding, create connection, and inspire people to care enough to act.
If my approach resonates with you, I’d love to hear about your project. Whether it’s an editorial assignment, documentary story, or portrait session, let’s start a conversation.
